a) Information Resources and E-Resource Data Bases: Machakos University library has in the last 3 years grown its information resources from 5,000 to the current more than 34,481 titles of books. In the last five months between September 2017 and February 2018 the University has acquired 1,141 copies of library books at a total cost of Kshs 2,642,717.00.

The library has 53 e-resource data bases with a variety of relevant books and journals. Among these data bases nineteen (19) have been subscribed to and thirty-four (34) are free. Payment of Kshs 480, 000 to the Kenya Libraries and Information Services Consortium (KLISC) was made on Tuesday 16th October 2017 as the annual subscription fee for the e-journals.

b) Staffing: The number of staff members have increased from five (5) to the current sixteen (16) members of staff who are hired on permanent basis. However, two (2) cleaners operate on casual basis bringing the total of library staff to Eighteen (18). Interviews were conducted on Friday 9th February 2018 increasing the current number of library staff from Eighteen (18) to Twenty-One (21). Three (3) library assistants were employed on casual basis.

c) Sitting Capacity: The library has a sitting capacity of 450 library clients. The sitting capacity has increased due to the redesigning of the second floor of the library.

d) Emergency Door Key Kits:The emergency door key kits were prepared and are already fixed at the three (3) emergency doors in the library.

e) Performance Contract For Financial Year 2017/2018: The Library performance contract for financial year 2017/2018 focuses on e-resource subscription, increase of internet bandwidth and acquisition of library books.

f) Information Literacy Skills: The programme kicked off on Friday 30th June 2017 with thirteen (13) self sponsored students from the Linguistics and Languages department. The students who completed the programme did a sit –in evaluation exercise on Tuesday 1st August 2017. Thirty one (31) regular students were trained on Monday 27th November 2017. Information literacy skills is a continous exercise and we will receive the first group of students to train this semester on Wednesday 21st February 2018.

g) Chairs and Tables: The library has two hundred and sixty-three (263) chairs and one hundred and five (105) reading tables. The library requires one hundred and sixty (160) new chairs and forty (40) reading tables.

h) Other Resources: The facility is under surveillance of ten (10) CCTV cameras. It has two (2) WI-FI access points. To ensure security of information resources and clients in case of an emergency; the facility has four (4) fire extinguishers. The facility is manned by three (3) security officers who operate on shift basis. The library is also a registered member of Kenya Libraries and Information Services Consortium (KLISC) and Kenya Library Association (KLA)
