ACADEMIC TOUR TO THE UNIVERSITY BY PUPILS OF MUTHINI PRIMARY

The Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic and Student Affairs) Professor Joyce Agalo and the Office of Career Services were honored to host the class eight candidates of Muthini Primary School on 2nd February, 2019 from 2 pm.

It was the first official visit from the school despite many years of neighborhood; marking the beginning of new relations between the two institutions.  It was encouraging to note that some of our staff members like Dr. Richard Kimiti- Dean, Graduate School are alumni of Muthini Primary School.

The pupils were accompanied by five (5) members of staff led by the Deputy Head teacher of the school. The Coordinator – Office of Career Services Madam Ruth Munene received the pupils who were then given a guided tour of the University by Mr Mwanthi of the Office of Maintenance and Planning.

They then visited the Engineering workshops with a keen interest in the Mechanical workshop where they spend some extra time.

The Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic and Student Affairs) graced the visit with a motivational talk from the Amphitheatre that left the pupils encouraged to work hard. The question and answer session was guided by Dr. Stephen Mailu – Deputy Registrar (Academic and Student Affairs) that took care of all the pupils concerns with many curious on student life at  the University  and what it takes to be a University Professor.

The pupils had a lot to learn from ICT as a team of student innovators from the University led by Kelvin Roman demonstrated the use of an online voting system that they had developed and that the University will use for the upcoming students’ election. Zipporah Kyusya of the DVC (ASA) office crowned the ICT session with an interactive talk that entailed the integration of ICT in all academic disciplines and day to day life.

Mr Mutie of the University library took the students through the library session exposing the students to the various resources within the library including e – resources.

The day closed with a refreshing moment where the pupils and staff enjoyed some refreshments together courtesy of the hospitable nature of our University.

Our special gratitude to all the staff that put in their time and effort to make this tour a success.
